The citizens of Chandigarh are a privileged lot as they have a beautiful water feature, Sukhna Lake, in the city. Nestling in the foothills of Shivalik range, this fascinating placid sheet of water is perhaps the greatest gift the founders of the, city beautiful, could give to the people of Chandigarh. An addition to this gift was made when an idea of creating a Complex (erstwhile Club) on the Sukhna Lake was conceived by Mr. A.L. Fletcher ICS, the then Financial Commissioner Development, Punjab Government. Mr. Le Corbusier was, however opposed to the idea of construction of any buildings on the northern bank as he felt it would obstruct the view of the Lake and hills beyond. |
